The drawing above is made by David Jon Kassa, a contemporary hyper-realism artist. Hyper-realism is a genre of art dedicated to making a realistic art as possible, and the drawing above shows the capability of hyper-realism today. I thought it was interesting and notable that his drawing is much more realistic than the masters of art in the past like Leonardo da vinci. I am certain that Kassa is also respected and skillful artist, but da vinci is clearly more popular and considered skillful. Of course, this is because Kassa is using the techniques and methods that have been developed and practiced by the previous artists and hence in advantage. Nonetheless, I thought it was very interesting that younger and less well known artist can be more skillful in terms of realistic depiction. Even though we don't think like this often, the difference is similar to professional driver in 1920's racing against me in 2012 in our own cars; while I am probably not the more adept driver by any means, I am pretty certain that my car will be able to overwhelm my opponents'.
